Tulsa County Medical Society, Oklahoma State Medical Association Expand Free Wellness Program to Help Saint Francis Health Care Professionals
Tulsa (June 2, 2022) -- To help those affected by yesterday’s tragic events at Saint Francis Health System, the Oklahoma State Medical Association (OSMA) and Tulsa County Medical Society are expanding their Physician Wellness Programs to provide support to all of the hospital’s health care professionals.
“This tragedy has touched all of us in the Tulsa medical community,” said Tulsa County Medical Society President Brian Macha, MD. “Offering this program to our family at Saint Francis is one small way we can begin to support those in need.”
Launched in 2020, the Physician Wellness Program (PWP) provides up to eight free, confidential one-hour counseling sessions with a participating licensed psychologist in Oklahoma. Available to all medical and osteopathic physicians across the state, regardless of their membership, the program is part of OSMA’s efforts to address physician stress and burnout. However, the program will now also to provide grief and trauma support - at no cost - to any Saint Francis health care workers who may need assistance.
“Over the past two years, Oklahoma’s health care professionals have worked to keep our patients healthy under the most extraordinary circumstances. And while this is our calling, it can also be incredibly stressful. Our Physician Wellness Program has helped hundreds of physicians across the state work to find help and hope during the stress of COVID and financial challenges. Now, as our fellow health care professionals at Saint Francis face this heartbreaking loss, we hope this program can provide some relief,” said Oklahoma State Medical Association President David Holden, M.D.
