Dynamed (Oklahoma Health Connection)
Where do you look when you need a quick answer to a clinical question? What experts do you consult when you see a case you don’t deal with on a regular basis and are those experts available 24/7? How do you stay current on state of the research and apply it to your clinical practice? If the answers to these questions are of interest to you then DynaMed is a tool you can use… and best of all it is free! Dynamed is a Reference tool created by physicians for the purpose of making it easier for physicians and other healthcare professionals to incorporate research at the point-of-care. The OSMA has partnered with the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Library to make this available to OSMA members.
Public Health
The OSMA supports a wide range of policies and activities regarding public health issues.
The physicians of the Oklahoma State Medical Association (OSMA) are concerned about the health of our states residents. Data compiled by the Oklahoma State Department of Health show that Oklahomans overall health is worse than the rest of the nation. In response the OSMA has developed the Physicians Campaign for a Healthier Oklahoma (PCHO) to make a difference in the health and quality of life of all Oklahomans.
The Cancer Information Service (CIS) is a national resource for information and education about cancer. The CIS is a program of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Through its Partnership Program, the Cancer Information Service reaches the medically underserved, including minority groups and people with limited access to health information and services. CIS partners with state and regional organizations that directly serve these audiences. The CIS can assist state and regional organizations by providing: the latest, most accurate cancer information, cancer education program planning, implementation and evaluation, coalition building and training on clinical trials.
PLICO
Physicians Liability Insurance Company (PLICO) was formed in 1979 by the Oklahoma State Medical Association to serve Oklahoma Physicians. Over the next two decades, many thousands of physicians would place their trust in professional liability insurance coverage from PLICO. Then, in 1997, PLICO began extending liability coverage to Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine. Today, more than 450 D.O.'s have come to rely on PLICO for their professional liability needs.
Since issuing its very first policy, PLICO has been managed by physicians for physicians. We are an outspoken advocate for medicine and care passionately for the advancement of Oklahoma health care and patient safety. These are time-honored traditions at PLICO that we will proudly continue throughout the twenty-first century.
OSMA Health
That’s the philosophy behind OSMA Health – the health benefits program created by physicians, for physicians . . . and available exclusively to members of the Oklahoma State Medical Association, their employees and their families.
Oklahoma Health Professionals Program
Since 1983, the HPP has provided services to physicians with alcohol and chemical dependence, quality of care issues, and behavioral and disruptive issues. The OHPRP is a confidential, informational support and referral resource for physicians and other health care professionals. No names of participants are released to any external organization. Care is provided by medical colleagues who are sensitive to the special needs of program participants.
